Description
Despite the best of intentions, seventeen-year old, wisecracking Hank Kirby can't quite seem to catch a break. It's not that he means to screw things up all the time, it just happens. A lot. Case in point: his attempt to ask out the girl he likes literally goes up in flames when he spells "Prom" in sparklers on her lawn...and nearly burns down her house.
As if that wasn't bad enough, Peyton Breedlove, a brooding loner and budding pyromaniac, witnesses the whole thing. Much to Hank's dismay, Peyton takes an interest in him-and his "work." The two are thrust into an unusual friendship, but their boundaries are tested when Hank learns that Peyton is hiding some dark secrets, secrets that may change everything he thought he knew about Peyton.

MY REVIEW
MY KIND OF CRAZY was a solid contemporary, if not a tad dark, with a unique voice.
This book brings us face-to-face with Hank, your average high school senior, unless you count his alcoholic father, the neglect, and the fact that he works extra shifts at the grocery store to support them and keep the lights on. But Hank's life is about to become even less normal. When he tries to ask the high school "hottie" to prom by spelling out the word on her lawn with sparklers, only for it to go up in flames, he meets Peyton by chance. But Peyton doesn't mind the fire he just started. She soon becomes immersed in his life, and as it turns out, she's a pyromaniac with some dark secrets and serious emotional issues.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I thought it might be a bit more light hearted and funnier than it was, but it definitely stayed true to a contemporary with a lot of character growth and serious themes. The writing was engaging and the voice unique. I really liked Hank and was happy to see him sort of come into his own throughout the book. As for Peyton, I enjoyed her too and was glad she got a happy ending. The only issue I had was the concern that teens whom read this with serious emotional issues may make light of them because Peyton's problems and actions were sort of glossed over in the book and made out to be not as serious as they were. It wasn't so bad as to hinder my enjoyment, however.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
